My Path to Pelvic Health Care

Dr. Sarah Houhoulis is a chiropractor specializing in pelvic health, pregnancy care, and strength-based rehabilitation.

She studied biology and psychology at James Madison University before earning her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, California.

During chiropractic school, Dr. Sarah discovered her passion for powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting, and she continues to compete and referee today in USA Weightlifting and USA Powerlifting Leagues. She still holds some bench press records in Virginia from 2018!

Dr. Sarah would pursue her continuing education based off of the patients who were presenting to her clinic, which has given her the opportunity to learn and help people with complex and challenging health issues.

Now based in Portland, Maine, she helps patients navigate various seasons of life with myofascial release, chiropractic acupuncture and strength training.

Why I Do This Work

Over the years, I’ve worked with patients who were told their symptoms were “normal” or something they simply had to live with - whether that meant unrelenting pain, leaking during exercise, or missing out on community due to illness.

What I’ve seen again and again is that with the right combination of care, education, and lifting weights, people can reconnect with their bodies and feel strong again.

That belief is what continues to shape how I practice today: helping patients better understand their bodies and giving them the tools to move with confidence again.

A Different Kind of Chiropractic Care

Many people come to Anatomie after trying traditional chiropractic care or physical therapy that didn’t fully address their needs.

Dr. Sarah takes a whole-body approach that combines chiropractic treatment with movement and rehabilitation.

Sessions may include:

• Chiropractic adjustments
• Myofascial release and soft tissue work
• Dry needling
• Pelvic floor rehabilitation
• Breath and nervous system regulation
• Strength and movement retraining

Instead of quick adjustments alone, visits focus on restoring healthy movement patterns and addressing the root cause of pain.

Care That Centers You

  • Evidence-Based Care

Treatment combines chiropractic adjustments, myofascial release, dry needling, and pelvic floor rehabilitation to address pain and restore healthy movement.

  • Movement Is Medicine

Visits include guidance on movement and exercise to retrain patterns, build strength, and support long-term recovery.

  • Health at Every Size

Dr. Sarah practices from a HAES-aligned perspective, recognizing that healthy bodies come in many shapes and sizes and focusing on habits that support overall well-being.

  • Inclusive & Trauma-Informed Care
